Cheap Ways to Get Rid of Spyware
16 August 2006We’ve all probably had experiences with Spyware on our computers - even if we don’t know it. “Spyware” refers to all kinds of nasty programs that get installed on your computer without your consent as you surf the Internet. If you think your computer doesn’t have any of these, think again - unless you’ve got some kind of program installed to counter them, you’ll pick up dozens of these programs over the course of a year. They slow down your computer and even cause serious damage - forcing people to spend real money fixing the problem.
Luckily, there are a couple of free programs that will get clean up your PC:
Adaware - This is a good, reputable program that I use on my own computer. They’ve got a free version and a paid version, but luckily the free version will work well unless you get hit with something really nasty.
Spybot Search and Destroy - This is one recommended by Consumer Reports as the best free software. I haven’t used it personally, but I plan to check it out.
Keep in mind that prevention is very important - don’t install these programs only when you see something going wrong. Do them before you get something installed on your computer that you don’t want.
