Get Cheap Food At Farmer’s Markets
20 August 2006Here’s a tip on how to get some cheap fresh produce - go to your local farmer’s market. If you’re unfamiliar with the concept, it’s basically a big open place where farmers sell food straight to consumers instead of going through the middle-man. That means lower prices for you. There are farmer’s markets all over the United States, and there is a web site with a comprehensive listing of them here that you can search to find one near you.
For even more savings, try this: go near the end of the day, around closing time. The farmers are trying to sell fresh produce - whatever people don’t buy is going to get wasted. So go around to the booths offering half-price for what they have left. You’ll find many are willing to sell to you, even at that discount - so nice, cheap fresh food is out there for people who know how to haggle.
