How to Buy Organic Food for Cheap Prices

22 August 2006

Wenchypoo’s Warehouse has a good post on ways to get organic food for a lot less. I won’t get into the politics of it, but if you’ve decided to go organic, you should try to save as much money as you can when doing it. She buys in bulk, goes to farmer’s markets, and joins up with some other organic food buyers to get better deals as a group.

I’ll add that you should be looking at Amazon’s online grocery service as well. They have a bunch of organic items on there - you have to buy in bulk, and generally they have to be dry foods and not stuff that can spoil. The savings, however, are pretty big. I was just browsing around through there and found some organic dried berries and these organic snack bars. The only downside I can see is that it’s pretty hard to know for sure if something meets your standards for “organic” over the Internet - a lot of companies market themselves with that label. So it might be a good idea to do some research before buying. But then again, the Amazon customer comment section is very useful for that purpose, too.
