Car Maintenance Tips to Keep From Visiting the Mechanic

24 August 2006

SmartMoney has an article on how to keep your car from needing to go to the mechanic as often. It’s got ten different tips for how to drive your car that will make a big difference on the wear and tear you put on the engine. Some of these are things that probably very few people do - but others I get a sense are pretty common. Some of the better tips to check out are #1, that you shouldn’t have anything on when you turn on the ignition (because of extra stress on the engine), #3, that you should fill up your tank before you hit empty because it can kick up dirt into the engine, costing thousands to repair, and #5, to always have your tire pressure checked when you get your oil changed. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure, and with a car little changes in your habits can save you thousands of dollars over time. This article is well worth a read.
