Recycle Your Old Electronics Through E-Bay Rethink

30 August 2006

I’d never even heard of this, but FireFinance points out that E-Bay has a great program where you can make some money from the old electronic devices you have sitting around the house, such as cell phones and computers. They’ve partnered with a few other companies that will buy your stuff – generally you pick from a set of descriptions, state the condition, and they quote you a price and pay for shipping. If it looks good after an inspection, they pay you what they quoted you. If you don’t want to make money off it (there are some of these hard to understand people out there), they have options to recycle it or donate the proceeds to several good charities such as Goodwill or March of Dimes. You can check out the E-Bay Rethink program here – FireFinance made about $60 from some old cell phones, so it’s a good thing to take a look at before you toss that old electronic junk.

  2. Have A Sprint Cell Phone? You Can Get Out Of Your Contract, Free Says:

[...] That’s because of a loophole in the fine print of the contract – Sprint has just made a pricing change to its text messages, and any time prices change, you’ve got 30 days to request a termination without a termination fee. In this case, you’ve got until the end of October. It turns out all the major cell phone companies have these clauses, and they all periodically change prices – even though few people take advantage of it. Why would it be a good idea to cancel your cell phone service? Because then you can go sign up for another contract, get a free, brand new phone, and start the clock over a lot faster than the normal 2 year contract. That’s a lot of extra value for you, given that many of the phones you can get are worth $150-$200 – and while it’s a little bit of a hassle, if you’ve got an older phone it can be well worth it. You can even sell your old cell phone, netting yourself a little bit of money for doing it. [...]
