How to Get Cheap Concert Tickets and Sports Tickets Online

7 September 2006

I was browsing through this post over at Finding Freedom, which gives some advice on how to get cheap theater tickets online. One of the sites he points to, StubHub, is a scalper’s dream come true. It’s an online marketplace where you can buy and sell tickets for all kinds of special events, including theater tickets, concert tickets, and sports events. It’s easy to both save money there and blow a lot of it - browsing through stuff, I saw a lot of pretty cheap tickets from people who suddenly found out they couldn’t go at the last minute. On the other hand, there’s lots of ridiculously overpriced stuff on there too - if you have any financial sense, I don’t encourage you to pay the $5000 that a pair of prime Rolling Stones tickets were going for.

If you’re not going to lose sleep if you can’t go to a specific event, and if it’s not sold out, you can wait until a week or so before and get tickets for a little cheaper as some people bail out. I looked around online and found several sites ticket sales sites - but most only sell expensive tickets at more than face value, such as TickCo or OnlineSeats. They’re basically just web sites for high tech scalpers. There’s one that bills itself as a discount scalper - CheapPremiumTickets. Watching E-Bay is a good alternative option - they have a section just for tickets to various events. Finally, there’s Craig’s List - there was a little less inventory on here, but better deals if you are looking for tickets to a local event.
