Some Tips on When to Buy Life Insurance
8 September 2006MakingOurWay has a post on his thoughts on when you should be getting life insurance. I’m not a good candidate for it myself and haven’t spent much time thinking about it, but he points out a few situations in which it is an absolute must – specifically, when you own a family business or some other large piece of property that you want your children or spouse to inherit. They’ll have to pay taxes on it, and it’s a good idea to get enough life insurance to cover the estate tax – that lets them keep the family legacy in one piece.
He also points out some things parents may have planned on paying for in their children’s lives, such as weddings or college, and suggests it’s a good idea to insure enough so that these things are all taken care of.
