Saving Money on Soap When Washing Dishes
15 September 2006Here’s a quick tip to save money on those expensive liquid dishwashing soaps you need for rinsing dishes or various cleaning jobs. They often cost a couple bucks per bottle, and you can run through a lot of them if you’ve got a big family. However, what you’ll find is that most of the time you’re using the soap it’s for a small job - washing your hands, maybe cleaning off one or two dishes or something that got dirty. That’s a big waste when you put a huge glob of soap on there - and I’m betting I’m not the only one who’s filled up the sink with suds trying to clean off a single dish.
The trick is to have two bottles - leave the dish soap in the bottle it comes in for when you really need to do dishes. But get another one (or just keep the bottle next time you run out) and fill it up with about 8-10 times as much water as dish soap. That way you’ve got a diluted mixture to use when you just have a quick job or want to wash your hands off. It’s easy, saves you a little money, and in this case it’s a thrifty tip that’s probably more convenient than not doing it, because those suds can be annoying.
