There’s a Time to Buy Everything Cheaply…
16 September 2006And this guide in SmartMoney is pretty comprehensive about it. Sometimes bargain hunting is intuitive – it’s easy to understand why you should buy summer clothes during after-summer sales. But some of these are based on industry peculiarities you wouldn’t otherwise find out about. Like cars, for example – they suggest buying on weekday mornings in September. Why? Buy in September because they’re trying to get rid of last year’s models. Buy on a weekday morning because no one is there, and a salesman will be a lot more willing to negotiate – he’s got nothing better to do and he’ll try to make the deal work. Makes a lot of sense, but I’d never just think of that on my own. Or the suggestion to buy airline tickets three weeks before your flight on a Wednesday. Huh? Well, the airlines tend to drop the price at the 21 day mark, and they do it Tuesday evening or Wednesday morning.
There are several other good tips like that there, so go take a look.
